• Afasic are planning to mark their 40th anniversary with an attempt on the world record for the largest number of people singing and signing at the same time.   It will take place on 22nd October, and will use one of the songs from a forthcoming songbook by Alison Burns (see below).   If you would like to take part  please contact Mark Thompson at Afasic (markt@afasic.org.uk) to obtain a song and sign sheet and a CD of "Sunshine In My Heart"

• "Respect" is a songbook with 15 new songs written for assemblies in secondary schools around the topics of respect, patience, caring and citizenship.   The songs are specially written for an SEN environment, using simple language with tunes that spread  over no more than one octave.   Signs are described and illustrated in full, with an additional page for each song where the suggested key words are highlighted with sign reminder diagram above.   Development ideas are included for each song, with curriculum topic links.  The songbook is accompanied by a CD with words and music. Signalong Basic Vocabulary Dictionary now available !

All the signs in the Basic Vocabulary Phases 1 - 4 manuals, arranged alphabetically in 3 A5 handy-sized books complete with slipcase.   All signs are fully described and illustrated, eliminating cross-references, with additionall sections on days of the week, months, numbers and name signing.

• If you missed the last edition of SignUp you can download it from here.  You can read about our new  link with Widgit Software to make signs and symbols more readily available, Signalong tutor training, new staff and new products.   We appealed for freelance artists - if you think that you can meet Signalong's exacting standards for sign diagrams, please email Kay Meinertzhagen for more information.   We also asked users for financial assistance - 16 years after Signalong first began, we're busier than ever and our resources are stretched to the limit!

 

The revised Sexual Awareness Resource Pack on disc is now available .   The new pack has the sexuality signs from It's My Life together with the matching symbols in Widgit's new Communicate In Print format, which enables users to compile their own training resources, and the discussion pictures are presented both as .emf and .pdf files. The signs in the new pack are also in an A5 handbook, as are the guidance notes.   The pack has been expanded to accommodate same-sex relationship pictures.

• You can't get the full flavour of the whole of the Signalong range of manuals and other resources just from the publication list.   We try to get around the country to enable existing users to see what's new and to give others the chance to see what they're missing.   For details of where we'll be in 2008 click here

 

Great news for those of you who prefer to use your computers to access resources.   Firstly, we have put digital versions of our A5 handbooks onto the internet using the new PageSuite viewing programme.    You can access these from the Publications section of the site, and they are available on a subscription basis.   Other publications will become available throughout the coming year.

 

The supply of the Sign & Rhyme and Signalong Database CDs is temporarily suspended.   Graydex, the company which produces them, is ceasing trading and we can't get new supplies for the time being.   We are planning to bring production of these in-house (equipment purchased thanks to the Abbey Charitable Trust), but until we sort out the copyright issues we can't go ahead.   Watch this space.... STOP PRESS: Graydex have kindly transferred all rights to the charity, and we are currently working out the technical issues to get the resurces back into production.
