SIGNALONG   Foundation Training Courses

REQUIREMENTS

• The course should be 15 hrs long over no less than 2 sessions
• It is advisable to teach no more than 10 trainees per tutor
• The tutor should either use the official Signalong tutor pack or use materials of a similar sort and quality

AIMS

By the end of a Foundation course the trainee should be able to read and perform any sign from any Signalong manual and have an understanding of the communication needs of their clients in a signing environment.

OBJECTIVES

• To learn how to access the manuals by understanding the "yellow sections"
• To learn new relevant vocabulary
• To understand about using body language and facial expression in communication
• To understand that Signalong is a client led system
• To learn about generalisation and over generalisation of terms
• To learn about symbolic development, introducing new signs with the real object and in real situations before moving on to the abstract
• To gain an understanding of basic word levels and key word signing

CERTIFICATES

• A trainee must attend over 70% of the course to qualify for a Signalong "completed" certificate and over 50% of the course to qualify for an "attended" certificate
• Ultimately the awarding of certificates depends on the delivering tutor
